Delijia: Completes carbon footprint certification for four products, leading the green stationery consumption trend

With the support of Carbon Newture, Delijia completed the carbon footprint calculation for four products and obtained Product Carbon Footprint Verification Statements from the authoritative third-party organization SGS.

Light industry and consumer goods industry

Zhejiang Delijia Stationary Co., Ltd.

As global sustainable consumption trends rise, green and low-carbon attributes have become key considerations for consumers and businesses when making stationery procurement decisions. Recently, Zhejiang Delijia Stationery Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Delijia") actively responded to this trend. With the support of Carbon Newture, the company completed carbon footprint calculations for four products and obtained Product Carbon Footprint Verification Statements from the authoritative third-party organization SGS.

The verification followed the ISO 14067:2018 standard and adopted a cradle-to-grave life cycle assessment approach, covering the full process from raw material extraction to product disposal and recycling. In addition, Delijia disclosed the carbon footprint information of the four products on the “China Light Industry & Crafts Carbon Disclosure Platform,” enabling the carbon data to be visible, traceable, and verifiable.

The four certified products include two series: perfect-bound notebooks and spiral notebooks. Each series features models using both recycled and non-recycled paper. The carbon footprint of the recycled paper versions is reduced by 29.42% (perfect-bound notebook) and 25.82% (spiral notebook) compared to those made with conventional paper. These certifications not only quantify the actual carbon reduction benefits of using recycled paper but also make it clear to consumers how much carbon each product emits.

02 Green stationery gains global market favor as environmental policies drive industry growth

With rapid global economic and cultural development and the rising demand for education, the number of schools has steadily increased, fueling growth in the writing instruments market, including pencils, pens, and notebooks. According to data from Mordor Intelligence’s report “Stationery and Office Supplies Market Size & Share Analysis – Growth Trends and Forecasts (2024–2029)”, the global stationery and office supplies market is projected to reach USD 145.21 billion in 2024 and grow to USD 178.63 billion by 2029, with a CAGR of 4.23%. In particular, strong economic growth in the Asia-Pacific region has increased consumer demand for high-quality, sustainable lifestyles, making eco-certified stationery products more popular.

Domestically, the green stationery market is being propelled by both consumer interest and policy support. In July 2024, China’s State Council General Office released the Three-Year Action Plan (2024–2026) for Rectifying Market Order, Building a Regulatory System, and Promoting Industrial Development in the Government Procurement Sector, which proposes incorporating carbon footprint requirements into government procurement standards and expanding the scope of green procurement. It also mandates preferential or mandatory procurement of products that are certified green or meet government green procurement standards, promoting low-carbon development. As a result, office supplies will be a key focus area for government green procurement.

According to research by Boyan Consulting, the total sales of China’s green stationery industry reached approximately RMB 12 billion in 2023, a 15% year-on-year increase. The China Educational Equipment Industry Association reports that over the past three years (2021–2024), the proportion of green stationery purchased by more than 300 schools in major cities like Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou rose from 30% in 2021 to 45% in 2023, with expectations for continued growth. Additionally, over 80% of principals at primary and secondary schools stated that they prioritize purchasing eco-certified stationery, and about 75% of parents said they are willing to pay a premium for green stationery to support their children’s health and environmental protection.

Green, low-carbon stationery is entering a period of rapid growth driven by both policy and market forces, with both demand-side and institutional support steering the stationery industry toward a green, low-carbon, and sustainable future.

03 Carbon footprint becomes essential as Delijia paves the way for green trade

From the perspective of low-carbon lifestyles, millennials and Gen Z are becoming the dominant consumer groups, showing growing concern for environmental protection and sustainability. Stationery products made with recycled paper and other renewable low-carbon materials are increasingly favored by young consumers due to their eco-friendly attributes. Delijia’s carbon footprint verification for four products is a proactive response to this trend. More importantly, carbon disclosure is expected to become a standard requirement for launching such eco-designed products in the future.

The national standard GB/T 44837-2024 “Green product assessment—Stationery”, which will come into effect on June 1, 2025, sets specific evaluation criteria for green stationery products, including resource, environmental, quality, and low-carbon attributes. It defines benchmarks and qualifying thresholds for green products and explicitly requires a carbon footprint report as proof of a product’s low-carbon attributes. Delijia’s recent carbon certification directly aligns with and anticipates these national requirements.

Delijia also actively participates in industry summits to promote green products. In January 2025, when the Green Trade Committee of the China Light Industry Chamber of Commerce was officially established, Delijia participated as a member and witnessed the unanimous adoption of the Committee Charter, jointly advancing the sustainable development of China’s light industry green trade. On June 5, 2025, Delijia will showcase its green stationery and carbon reduction practices at the Carbon Newture booth at the Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo, engaging with consumers committed to a low-carbon lifestyle.
