Recently, the inaugural Master Kong Sustainability Ecosystem Conference concluded successfully in Shanghai. As an important milestone in Master Kong’s efforts to build a greener value chain across the food industry, the conference focused on “Scope 3 governance” and featured the launch of an action initiative, the release of sustainability assessment standards for ecosystem partners, low-carbon capability training, and the presentation of an event carbon neutrality certificate. The event further strengthened green consensus among upstream and downstream partners and explored new models for the sustainable development of the food industry.

Notably, with support from Carbon Newture, the inaugural Master Kong Sustainability Ecosystem Conference achieved event carbon neutrality and received the corresponding certification. In addition, Aiting Xing, Vice President of Carbon Newture, was invited to deliver a training session titled “Building Carbon Management Capabilities for Sustainable Supply Chains.”

01 Focusing on Scope 3 Governance and Building Capabilities Across the Green Value Chain

As a leading company in China’s food and beverage industry, Master Kong has consistently upheld the principles of green development and actively fulfilled its responsibilities as a value chain leader. The company has integrated sustainability into both its daily operations and value chain collaboration.

At the operational level, Master Kong has actively advanced Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions reductions and achieved significant progress. In 2025, its energy consumption intensity decreased by 20.91% compared with 2017, while the carbon emissions intensity of its own operations fell by 29.83% over the same period, exceeding both established targets.

As it continued to strengthen its ESG governance system, Master Kong recognized the complexity of Scope 3 management and began conducting a Scope 3 greenhouse gas inventory in 2022. Scope 3 emissions currently account for approximately 85% of the company’s total carbon emissions.

To address challenges including unclear value chain boundaries, unequal levels of control, difficulties in sharing carbon data, and the limited carbon accounting capabilities of many small and medium-sized suppliers, Master Kong introduced an action initiative centered on “collaborative decarbonization, joint innovation, ecosystem empowerment, and health and well-being” at the conference. It also formally released ESG assessment standards for supply chain partners and other ecosystem partners.

By moving from principles and advocacy to concrete governance mechanisms, Master Kong has provided a clear direction for ecosystem partners to collaboratively advance Scope 3 governance.

To address the practical challenges of Scope 3 emissions reduction, Carbon Newture, as Master Kong’s green and low-carbon service partner, delivered a training session titled “Building Carbon Management Capabilities for Sustainable Supply Chains.” Maggie Xing, Vice President of Carbon Newture, began with low-carbon transition trends in the food industry, domestic and international green trade rules, and supply chain decarbonization requirements from leading enterprises.

Drawing on emissions reduction practices from industry leaders, she systematically explained pathways for the green transformation of the food industry value chain. The session helped Master Kong and its ecosystem partners better understand supply chain carbon management and presented a systematic low-carbon solution for value chain decarbonization in the food industry.

At the implementation level, Maggie also introduced Carbon Newture’s independently developed AI-native digital carbon management platform「Cyacle 」. The platform provides six core capabilities: energy and carbon management, carbon accounting management, supply chain carbon management, carbon asset management, CBAM compliance services, and ESG compliance disclosure. It is aligned with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology’s standards for the development of energy and carbon management centers.

Through the platform, companies can integrate energy, production, operational, metering, and external reference data to support core functions including energy and carbon data collection, accounting, optimization, disclosure, and carbon asset management. It restructures fragmented data, disconnected processes, and multi-layered management requirements into a continuously operating digital carbon management system.

Maggie stated: “Digital carbon management platforms can help companies automatically collect energy and carbon data from upstream and downstream partners and consolidate it into a unified data foundation. This supports value chain leaders in identifying Scope 3 emissions reduction priorities and advancing collaborative decarbonization across the value chain, making Scope 3 governance quantifiable, traceable, and collaborative.”

02 The Conference Achieves Event Carbon Neutrality as the Two Parties Deepen Green Cooperation

While the conference focused on collaborative value chain decarbonization, it also embedded low-carbon principles into event planning and on-site execution.

With support from Carbon Newture, Master Kong followed the requirements of the Guidelines for the Implementation of Carbon Neutrality for Large-Scale Events (Trial) and completed the full process of greenhouse gas emissions accounting, reduction, and offsetting for the event implementation stage. The conference successfully achieved event carbon neutrality, and a certification ceremony was held on site.

This was not the first collaboration between Carbon Newture and Master Kong in the low-carbon field. Carbon Newture previously supported Master Kong in achieving carbon neutrality for theFood × Fashion: Reimagining Plastic Through Circular Renewal” ESG-themed fashion show. The initiative marked the first carbon-neutral cross-industry collaboration between food and fashion at the 2026 Spring/Summer Shanghai Fashion Week.

The two parties will further deepen their green cooperation at the upcoming 2026 Shanghai International Carbon Neutrality Expo. Carbon Newture’s exhibition booth will showcase Master Kong’s recycled polyethylene terephthalate, or rPET, technology through an interactive installation, visually demonstrating how discarded beverage bottles can be recycled and transformed into everyday products such as clothing, shoulder bags, and suitcases.

The two companies will also jointly organize the “Restart the Life of a Bottle” interactive check-in campaign. Visitors who complete the interactive activities will receive customized gifts. Through visual displays and hands-on experiences, the initiative will further communicate Master Kong’s green brand image while helping the public better understand low-carbon development and the circular economy.

From reducing emissions in its own operations to advancing Scope 3 governance, and from individual corporate action to ecosystem-wide collaboration, Master Kong is actively fulfilling its green responsibilities as a value chain leader and working with upstream and downstream partners to promote the low-carbon transformation of the food and beverage industry.

Looking ahead, Carbon Newture will continue to work with Master Kong to deepen cooperation in value chain carbon management, low-carbon capability building for supply chain partners, carbon-neutral scenario implementation, and low-carbon communications. The partnership will support Master Kong in continuously improving its Scope 3 governance system, engaging more ecosystem partners in the green and low-carbon transition, and turning sustainability from a concept into action and from shared understanding into collective progress.
